I haven't been impressed with Daredevil's book post Secret Wars. I haven't loved Daredevil's book since Bendis. He knew his way around the Kingpin, and the tone of that relationship was pretty note perfect when their paths crossed, and absolutely perfect when they appeared separately. Marvel seems to have been paying attention to that.
Taking inspiration from the DD Netflix series and his own Civil War II tie in book, Matthew Rosenberg has built a Wilson Fisk deep enough, interesting enough, to sustain his own title. It's the hardest thing to do with 'appearance' characters. His Fisk has blood on his hands and is looking to chronicle why that blood is there. His conduit to do this is a sports writer, one on the boxing beat (it is a Daredevil universe book), who is more fleshed out in one issue than Jessica Jones has been since her title started 4 months ago. Is he looking to reform? Is this all just a public pathway to conceal private misdeeds? No way to know just yet. There is a way to know that artist Ben Torres has some Greg Capullo and Eduardo Risso in his work, giving a gritty feel with lots of movement even when people are standing still. It was a pleasant surprise how awesome this book was.
