It’s probably a bad sign when Hercules comes asking for a favor. It’s juuuuuust a little job that needs doing, but this is Hercules; isn’t he supposed to be REALLY good at doing labors himself? Before they know it, Iron Man, Spider-Man and the Hulk are stuck looking after Orthus and Cerberus, the two legendary hounds of the underworld! Luckily, the dogs learn to behave after chewing up only a few cars, a statue, and Iron Man, and finally they’re obedient enough for the Metro Dog Show! Only problem, Hercules wants the dogs back. Oh no, Herc, not before the Hulk gets his ribbon! It’s two dogs with five heads between them, and all the action you can handle. Available July 23rd, 2008

Yet another entry by Marvel into kids comics. I’ll defer opinions to my son, who’s going into 2nd grade, but reads 2 years ahead. The story revolves around Spidey, Hulk, and Iron Man as they…dog sit. Yep, they are asked to watch Cerberus and Orthus, 2-and-3 headed dogs, while Herc does some remodeling. I thought the lead character combo strange (Hulk eating pizza with Iron Man?), until I remembered the recent Marvel movies. So, my kid’s opinion? Enjoyed the art, enjoyed the characters (he’s too young for PG-13 movies, and he loves tie-ins), and got/liked the point of the story: it’s a lot of work to take care of a dog. Exactly what my wife wants him to know.
